The Scam of the fake “college educators” called Student Affairs
By Stanley K. Ridgley, PhD
One of the rhetorical sleights that progressive mediocrities on the campuses use to cloak their social activism and fomenting of student protests is the label of “Leadership.”
Here I refer to the lockstep ancillary support staff of “student affairs,” who refer to themselves as “college educators” and who run a fake “co-curriculum” on the campuses.
These thinly educated and ideologically trained support staffers believe themselves to be educators just like the faculty.
They have assigned to themselves an “educational” mission and they run — with no accountability — a “co-curriculum” that is suffused with a leftist mash-up of neo-Marxist, Maoist, Freirean, and racialist mysticism.
They run the “leadership” scam under the rubric of “social justice,” and they impose this “co-curricular” dogma in a 24-7 messaging framework called “milieu management” that is explicitly designed to render the message inescapable.
The University of North Carolina is one of the most egregious practitioners of this fake curriculum. You can examine it for yourself on their website here.
What does this sort of “leadership” training consist of?
Here is one of the manuals they use to guide the faux “leadership” indoctrination.
The extremist progressive agenda is clearly stated, with no dissonance permitted. This is the source of the rot in American higher education — the “student affairs” bureaucracy with its fake faculty, fake curriculum, fake transcripts, DEI snitch lines and enforcement mechanisms, and no oversight to speak of.
While faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill bears the brunt of anti-woke criticism, the most important and unsavory bureaucracy at UNC — and at all colleges — flies under the radar. Most folks are unaware of the fake curriculum called the “co-curriculum” on campuses, which is staffed 100% with progressive mediocrities who pretend to be faculty (they call themselves “college educators”) and run an entire fake “milieu management” indoctrination operation.
Outside of faculty oversight, these bureaucrats run seminars, caucuses, workshops, “dialogues,” and “conversations,” all grounded in noxious racialist theory and designed not as a contribution to the “marketplace of ideas,” but for the indoctrination of students into a cramped and primitive neo-Marxist (Freirean) worldview.
Be clear, this has nothing to do with the faculty and everything to do with mediocre louts in the student affairs bureaucracy, who coordinate their efforts nationwide through collusion with off-campus organizations like NASPA, ACPA, NACADA, and NADOHE.
Have at look at the UNC site here to see how this fake curriculum is described and administered outside of faculty oversight — understand that this anti-intellectual program of ideological indoctrination is organized and implements outside of faculty purview.
They are not classes, they are not part of the curriculum, they are nothing more than ideological indoctrination sourced from neo-Marxist critical theory, the “critical consciousness” doctrine of Brazilian Maoist Paulo Freire, and the primitive “critical race theory” of Derrick Bell, Kimberle Crenshaw and Richard Delgado and popularized by pseudoacademics like Ibram Kendi, Robin DiAngelo, and Ta-Nehisi Coates.
This is the core problem in higher education and it will not be solved without comprehensive investigation and replacement of both personnel and programming. This rogue “Student Affairs” bureaucracy is ripe for rollback by the North Carolina state legislature.
I detail the who, what, where, and how of the Student Affairs bureaucracy in BRUTAL MINDS, an essential source for parents and students to navigate the challenges of higher education and emerge a winner, unscathed by the ideological louts and ready for the challenges of the 21st Century information age.
